Two Wayne County police departments will collect unwanted prescription and over-the-counter medications for proper disposal.
The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration sponsors the nationwide effort to keep the medications from entering the water supply or falling into the wrong hands. The last collection in October 2024 involved 4,644 sites nationwide and collected 629,953 pounds of medications.
Richmond Police Department will collect from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at the police station, 50 N. Fifth St., Richmond. Liquid medications should be separated from other drugs. Used needles and lancets will also be collected and should be separated from the medications.
For anyone who cannot drop off their medications Saturday, RPD provides a drop box inside the police station lobby. Located near the stairs to the left of the information desk, the drop box is accessible during business hours, which are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Cambridge City Police Department is also participating in the DEA event. It will collect medications from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the town hall, 127 N. Foote St., Cambridge City.
