Centerville Senior High School Principal Brian Bellew and Hagerstown High School Principal Joshua Hallatt compete in a scooter race during halftime of a Wayne County Tournament game on Thursday, Jan. 9.

Northeastern Wayne Superintendent Matthew Hicks and Western Wayne Superintendent Andy Stover also competed. The first-round winners, Stover and Hallatt, were to race at a later game.

Wayne County Area Chamber of Commerce organized the contest to promote its Every Day Counts program that encourages good student attendance and describes why it matters. Elementary and middle school students are eligible to win scooters if they meet attendance criteria. Graduating seniors can win a new car, scholarship or other prizes.
