The Northeastern football team traveled north on Highway 27 to Winchester on Friday, Sept. 7, for an important Tri-Eastern Conference matchup between two rivals. The Knights demonstrated for the third straight week that they can play at any speed and win. After scoring a combined 124 points in their first two games, the Falcons’ game plan was to slow the pace of the game. The plan was effective in the first half with the Falcons holding a 7-0 lead at halftime.
Knight head coach Wes Oler made adjustments at halftime; the Knights responded by scoring 12 third-quarter points and only trailed 15-12 entering the fourth quarter. The Knight defense clamped down, holding the Falcons scoreless in the final period and pulled out a 19-15 win to maintain a share of the TEC lead.
Knight senior Blake Waters continued to put up impressive numbers for the winners. Waters rushed for 98 yards on 12 carries and completed five passes to four different receivers for 75 yards. Logan White caught two passes for 39 yards. As a team the Knights gained 171 yards on the ground. Colton Creech and Dylan Ross both had rushing touchdowns.
Trent Deloney returned a kickoff 80 yards for a score.
Zane Schneider led the Knight defense with 15 tackles. Creech and White each had interceptions.
The Knights return home to host Lincoln on Friday, Sept. 13, in another TEC game.
