Hagerstown’s quest to improve drinking water has received $700,000 in federal grant funding through the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs.
The water project will install new water mains, valves and hydrants, and provide a new booster station, according to a news release.
Hagerstown is one of 14 Indiana communities to receive more than $8 million in Community Development Block Grants. The town’s award is part of the Wastewater and Drinking Water Program that attempts to protect resident and environmental health, reduce utility rates and improve infrastructure to enable economic growth, the release said.
“When quality of life in rural Indiana is high, it improves the quality of life of our entire state,” said Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch, Indiana’s secretary of agriculture and rural development.
The funding originates with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and is administered in Indiana by OCRA.
