Portions of East Main Street will be closed an additional 33 days because of errors with the original survey for the Loop Phase 2 project in Richmond.
Although the 700 and 800 blocks of East Main Street are now open, the overall completion date on East Main is now estimated as Sept. 9. That’s what Beth Fields, the city’s director of strategic initiatives, told Board of Public Works and Safety members during their Aug. 8 meeting.
Loop Phase 2 straightens East Main Street and adds a bicycle path from Seventh to 10th streets. It also includes adding bike paths in the Depot District.
Fields presented two change orders for the Indiana Department of Transportation contract covering the project. The error with design elevations in the Clark Dietz Inc. survey adds $16,073.56 to the project cost. Fields said the city will pay that difference, then Clark Dietz will reimburse the city.
The other change order prohibits vibratory compaction during the project work. Fields said the age and structure of some East Main Street buildings led the city to seek the prohibition for safety.
Both change orders passed 2-0.
Board members also approved street closures for the Richmond High School Homecoming parade and for a Primex Plastics project.
The Homecoming parade is scheduled for Sept. 18 with a Sept. 19 rain date. The street closures include South West 13th and North West 13th streets from U.S. 40 to the McBride Stadium entrance for parade formation. The parade will proceed on West Main Street to South West First Street, then on South West First Street and Hub Etchison Parkway to Lyboult Field, requiring those streets to close, as well.
Primex asked for the closure of North F Street from North 13th to North 15th streets from about 7:30 to 11 a.m. Aug. 17 for a crane to lift a cooling tower onto the building’s roof.
