Wayne County Sheriff’s Deputy Brad Dwenger slipped past Deputy Luke Sheridan to win the inaugural Safety Village Grand Prix pedal car competition sponsored by Birth to Five on June 25.
Eight competitors pedaled around Safety Village in Richmond in quarterfinal, semifinal and championship rounds. The event, which also included giveaways and information from other children’s and family services, was part of Birth to Five’s Race to 25K fundraising efforts during June.
Birth to Five, which supports families of children up to 5 years old, partnered with the Stamm Koechlein Family Foundation for a dollar-for-dollar match up to $12,500 in donations. Donations may be made anytime online at mybirthtofive.org.
Other Grand Prix competitors included Richmond Mayor Ron Oler, Richmond Police Lt. Mike Black, Kyle Vickers and Joe Buckler of Richmond Fire Department, Cambridge City Police Officer Dillon Pitcher and Birth to Five’s Megan Lamb.
