Bill Keith Grubbs, 73, of Connersville passed away peacefully at 12:15 p.m. on Monday, December 9, 2019, with his loving family by his side at I.U. Heath-Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis.
Bill had been a patient there since his involvement in an auto accident on Friday, November 29, 2019.
One of three children of Glen Jerald and Anita Lavaughn Perkins Grubbs, Bill was born in Rushville on July 15, 1946. He graduated from Alquina High School with the class of 1964, and earned his Associate Degree in X-Ray Technology from I.U. Medical Center.
Bill served his country in the United States Army and Army Reserve. He was employed as an x-ray tech, licensed insurance agent, and for the past seventeen years in property management where he was well known for his handyman skills. Bill grew up in a farming family and absolutely loved farming with his son in law.
Bill was a member of Alquina United Methodist Church and avid lifelong 4-H supporter, having been a ten-year member, junior leader, and club leader. In addition, Bill served as concession director for the Fayette County Free Fair where he helped bring Alabama and Sylvia and Crystal Gayle to perform. He currently was serving as beef director for the fair.
Bill also coached FFA basketball and elementary girls basketball where he started the girls basketball league. He served as president of Connersville High School Basketball Boosters in 1983, and was also a member of Connersville Jaycees. A huge supporter of Lincoln High School athletics, Bill was an honorary member of Wampus Cats Running Club.
Survivors include twin children, Tiffany (Allen) Wampler of Milton, Indiana and Derek (Stephanie) Grubbs of Yorktown, Indiana; five grandchildren, Emma Grubbs of Colorado State University, Austin Wampler of Wilmington College, Ashley Wampler of Milton, Stella Grubbs and Ian Grubbs, both of Yorktown; a sister, Jill Wendel of Danville and nieces Amy Lievens and Allison Wendel; a brother, Jay (Joni) Grubbs of Carthage and nieces and nephews Michael Turner, Katie Byers, Stacey Paille, Andrew Grubbs. and Brandon Grubbs; Bill’s former wife, Linda Jenkins of Liberty, Indiana; two uncles, Charles (Becky) Grubbs and Leslie (Opal) Grubbs, all of Connersville; several other cousins, and special friends, in particular Doug Huntley who was more than an employer for the past 17 years, he was Bill’s good friend and trusted confidant.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents whom he was very fond of, Wilbur and Ruby Grubbs, Carl and Dorothy Perkins, and Frances Stabler.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 14, 2019, at Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home. Bill’s nephew, Pastor Brandon Grubbs will officiate. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery. Special thanks to the Chappelow/Gettinger family for their initial first aid, and to Fayette County EMS. Friends are invited to wear 4-H attire and show clothes to the visitation from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 13, 2019, at the funeral home.
