GREENWOOD, Indiana – Howard James Hinderliter, 97, passed away on November 27, 2019 in Indianapolis.
He was born on September 25, 1922, in Mt. Carmel, Illinois to the late Charles L. and Lena (Mauer) Hinderliter.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Paula Jean (Jennings); brothers, Rudolph, Charlie, Paul; and sisters, Marie, Katherine, Anna and Lucinda. He is survived by two children, Gary (Sharon) Hinderliter and Yalana (Alan) Rhea; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Howard graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in 1940 and joined the Navy serving during WWII in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters on a destroyer.
After moving to Indianapolis, he went to work for Mechanics Laundry and Supply and was promoted to General Manager of the Richmond, Indiana facility until his retirement in 1985.
In his retirement, Howard enjoyed walking, watching sports and golf, especially the Mens League at the Glen Miller Golf course. Howard and Paula were long time residents of Richmond, IN until moving in with their son in 2011.
Services will be private for his family.
