James “Jim” Allen Chandler, 84, of Hagerstown passed away Saturday, November 23, 2019 at Henry Community Health. He was born August 3, 1935 in Randolph County, Indiana, a son of the late Clarence L. and Mary (Much) Chandler.
A veteran of the US Air Force, he served during the Korean War. Jim retired from the Chrysler Corporation in 1998 after 31 years of service. He had also farmed in Delaware County for many years and was a farm mechanic in Cowan. He was a member of Harris Chapel Church of the Nazarene and currently attended New Testament Church of Christ in Hagerstown. Jim had a passion for gardening, garden and Farmall tractors, traveling and spending time with his trusty companion “Abby”.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Chandler of Hagerstown; daughter, Tina Couch (Ron Smith) of New Castle; grandson, Chris (Tiffany) Couch of Straughn; granddaughter, Cindi Couch of Straughn; great grandchildren, Crystal Howard, Cody Howard, Patrick Baker, Kelsay Baker and Chelsea Schoettmer; sister, JoAnn Holder of Richmond; half sister, Linda Kay (Danny) Yutsy of Avon; two step sisters, Lillian (Jim) Boicourt of Shirley and Jean Nichols; and several nieces & nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Olene Chandler; four brothers, Charles Wayne, Vernon Leroy, Claude Franklin and Paul Kermit Chandler; and two sisters, Ruth Nance and Wilma Goshern.
Services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Paul Gearhardt officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Springport.
