Five area high schools competed Saturday, Nov. 4, at Indiana Cheer Championship in New Castle.

Northeastern and Winchester faced Clinton Central, New Washington, Our Lady of Providence and Rising Sun for the Varsity D division title. Larger schools competed in the A, B and C groups.

Northeastern came in third in Varsity D, behind champion New Washington and runner-up Clinton Central. The Knights placed sixth last year.

Indiana Association of School Principals organizes the competition and announced placements for first, second and third.

Northeastern and Centerville also competed in the time-out small school division earlier in the day against about 15 other 2A and 3A schools, including New Castle and fellow TEC school Eastern Hancock.

New Castle placed third behind NorthWood and Yorktown. Centerville finished in the top 5 and Northeastern was 10th.

Connersville was in the large school division of the time-out contest. North Central was first, followed by Carroll and Lake Central.

The top 60% of teams from the Oct. 21 state preliminaries advanced to the finals.
