Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame inductee Ken Griffey Sr. will appear in Richmond as part of a local fundraiser.
Griffey, who was on the Reds’ 1970s World Series championship teams, is the guest speaker for Boys & Girls Clubs of Wayne County’s Smart Futures Dinner on Nov. 7.
Griffey went on to play for the New York Yankees and Atlanta Braves, later making history by playing for the Seattle Mariners alongside his son, Ken Griffey Jr.
BGCWC also plans to honor Andy, Paul, Nick and Lou Witte at the annual meal recognizing club alumni who’ve been successful in life. The Richmond High School graduates and brothers have a variety of experiences, some of which included professional baseball.
Andy spent 25 years in the mortgage industry and now owns a farm.
Paul is president and chief operating officer of First Bank Richmond and has held various leadership positions with organizations including Urban Enterprise Association, Economic Development Corp. of Wayne County and Wayne County Area Chamber of Commerce.
Nick is vice president manager of information systems at Cardinal Logistics Management Corp., and Lou serves as pricing specialist for Belden.
The Wittes also grew up playing baseball. Lou was drafted by the New York Yankees in 1999 and played for four years, and Nick was drafted by the San Diego Padres and played minor leagues for three years.
The dinner, catered by Olde Richmond Inn, begins with a social hour at 6 p.m. at Wayne County Fairgrounds’ First Bank Expo Center, 861 Salisbury Road N., Richmond. Dress is smart casual.
Tickets, which are $75 per person or $550 for a table of eight, are available at bgcrichmond.org. An additional VIP meet-and-greet is $250 for two tickets. This year’s event is sponsored by 3Rivers Federal Credit Union.
