Richmond’s ballot has grown by at least one more candidate for the November election.
Wayne County Democratic Party has conducted a caucus, unanimously selecting Carl Rhinehart III to run for an at-large common council seat. He joins fellow Democrats Claudia Edwards and Ron Itnyre, who filed earlier this year.
Rhinehart, Edwards and Itnyre will face Republicans Jane Bumbalough, Justin Burkhardt and Jerry Purcell. Richmond voters will select three of the six candidates for at-large council seats.
By noon July 3, individuals need to file a declaration to be a write-in candidate or be selected by Libertarian, Republican or Democratic parties to fill vacancies on a municipal election ballot.
Towns with a population of less than 3,500 have a different deadline, noon Aug. 1, to file to run in their elections for council or clerk-treasurer.
If candidates face opposition from within their party, a town convention will take place to finalize the ballot before the November election.
