Bessie L. Brown, 71, of Straughn, passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was born September 12, 1951, in New Castle to the James and Frances (Abner) Sexton. Bessie was a homemaker and a caregiver for everyone who came into her life. She was a member of Faith United Baptist Church in Hagerstown where she was involved in all things there as well as volunteering to clean the church. Bessie loved quilting, sewing, and reading but most of all she enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren and the rest of her family.
Bessie is survived by daughters: Frances (Phil) Miers of Carthage, Mary Brown of New Castle and Tanya Cornett of Spiceland, grandchildren: Tyler (Jessica) Catron, Ariel (fiancé Brandon)Cornett and Cole Cornett; great-granchildren: Adelina and Marleigh Catron; siblings: Jack Sexton, Kathy (Jon) Swichard, Dave (Robin) Sexton and Anna (Tim) Davis. She was preceded in death by her husband Fred Brown, grandson Christian Catron, parents, sister Judy Neal and sister-in-law Connie Sexton.
A funeral to celebrate Bessie’s life will be held at 2:00 on Friday, April 14, 2023, at Rose City Funeral Home, New Castle. Friends may call on Friday at the funeral home from 12:00 pm until the time of service. Burial will take place at Greenhills Cemetery, New Castle.
