RICHMOND, Ind. – Richard F. Longer Jr., age 77, of Richmond, Indiana, died Friday, October 4, 2019, at Reid Health.
Born February 4, 1942, in Richmond, Indiana, to Richard F. Sr. and Carol E. Winn Longer, Dick was a life-long resident of Richmond. He was a 1961 graduate of Richmond High School. Dick served in the National Guard for 6 years and in the Air Force Reserve for 2 years. He retired from the Richmond Fire Department as a lieutenant after 24 years of service. Dick was also the owner of Longer’s Mobile Acres.
He was a member of the Richmond Lodge No. 196, F. & A.M. Dick was the president of the Animal Welfare League for many years and a member of NRA and many other local gun clubs. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trap shooting. Dick enjoyed spending time in Florida with his family.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Donna Jean Winters Longer; daughter, Cindy (Bub) Isaacs of Hagerstown, Indiana; grandchildren, Dustin Cook of Richmond and Laci Isaacs of Hagerstown; great-grandchildren, Katie and Kenslie; sister-in-law, Cathy (Phil) Farris of Richmond; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation for Richard F. Longer Jr. will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 8, 2019, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Honors will be provided by the Richmond Fire Department and there will be a Masonic Service at 12:30 p.m. Funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 8, 2019, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Abner officiating. Burial will be in Willow Grove Cemetery with military honors provided by the Wayne County Honor Guard.
