Mr. Ronald Lee Nicholson, 84, of Richmond, passed away on Tuesday, February 28 at Reid Health Hospice.
Ron was the third son of Russell and Maxine Addleman Nicholson, both of whom preceded him in death. He was born on his mother’s birthday, January 17, 1939 in Wayne County, Indiana. Ron was a 1957 graduate of Whitewater High School. He played the trumpet in the school band and through the years often played at church. While at home growing up, he and his brothers worked on the family farm. Later, he and Merrill farmed around Hagerstown. In 1970, he began working at Richmond Baking Company until his retirement in 2005. Ron was a member of the Lynn Church of the Nazarene. That’s where he met Carolyn Robson. They were married on November 17, 1990 and lived in Webster Township. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, working in his shop and being outdoors. Ron loved good music. He sang in the church choir and sang many times as a soloist and in duets and groups. He enjoyed watching the Lawrence Welk Show each week. He also enjoyed Bill Gaither’s televised programs. Ron & Carolyn enjoyed vacations to Myrtle Beach, SC and Sarasota, FL. Ron liked to float in the warm Gulf waters.
Ron will be missed by his wife of 32 years, Carolyn; daughter, Vicki Sue Canon; grandchildren, Ashley Nicole Canon Rainer & husband, Zakk, Amanda Marie Canon Driskill & husband, Corey; Brandon Alan Samuels; great-granddaughters, Mya Grace Rainer and Isabella Jo Driskill; brothers, James Nicholson & wife, Joan; Merrill Nicholson & wife, Glenda; Richard Nicholson & wife, Esther; sisters, Joan Frame & husband, David; Janet Wells & husband, Gene; several nieces & nephews.
Visitation for Ron will be from 4-7 pm on Friday, March 3, at the Smith-McQuiston & Webster Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 4, at the Lynn Church of the Nazarene, 425 South Main Street in Lynn, Indiana.
