Sabrina Gail Cowan, 30, of Indianapolis, passed away unexpectedly on the evening of Monday, February 13, 2023 at Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis.
She was born on May 6, 1992 in New Castle, Indiana, a daughter of Jimmy Cowan and Teresa (Newman) York.
Sabrina was a 2010 graduate of New Castle Chrysler High School. She was currently attending Indiana Wesleyan University studying Business and Commerce. Sabrina worked in the material handling service industry as a service coordinator for Wiese USA in Indianapolis and had previously managed PLS Financial Services. She enjoyed traveling with her family and was an excellent and adventurous cook. Sabrina was an avid Softball player as a teenager and greatly enjoyed traveling to watch her daughter, Breaysia, play softball. In 2021, through her employer Wiese, Sabrina and Breaysia had the opportunity to travel to Mexico and help build homes for those in need. She loved her goldendoodle, “Leo Bear”. Sabrina wore her heart on her sleeve and was an intelligent, outgoing, free spirit who would do anything for others. She touched many lives.
Those left to cherish Sabrina’s memory include her daughter, Breaysia Cowan; her mother, Teresa York of New Castle; her step-father, Micky Reneau of New Castle; two sisters, Julia Burton (Jacob Ford) and nephew, Hudson, of Byrdstown, TN and Katie York of New Castle; a brother, Dustin Cowan of New Castle; her grandfather, Terry Newman of New Castle; three aunts, Brenda Newman of Indianapolis, Sherry (Scott) Ullery, and Angie Duvall both of New Castle; an uncle, Terry Newman (India) of Greensburg; a great-aunt, Connie McCrobie of New Castle; her special friend, Reese Murray, and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jimmy Cowan, her two grandmothers, Sharlette (Atkinson) Newman and Mary Cowan; her great-grandmother, Maida “Nanny” Gorman, and a cousin, Brandon Kennedy.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Saturday, February 18, 2023 at Sproles Family Funeral Home. Cremation will follow services.
Friends may call from 1:00 pm until the time of service Saturday at the funeral home.
