Leland “Lee” F. Powell, 92, of Cambridge City, died Saturday, February 11, 2023, at Glen Oaks Health Campus in New Castle, Indiana

Lee was born on May 11, 1930, to Arthur and Bernice Passmore Powell on the farm North of Bentonville. He attended Bentonville High School where he played basketball and later graduated in 1948. Lee married the former Carolyn J. Carr in Connersville on June 11, 1950. Lee had been employed at Philco Ford as a time study Engineer until 1962. He along with his wife became second-generation owners of Powell Paving Company. Lee was still involved in farming and raising angus cattle up until the early 1980’s. Lee always kept busy and continued working until his retirement in 2013 at the age of eighty-three. Lee was a dedicated member of the Milton Christian Church where he served as Deacon and shared the duties of building and ground maintenance. He was an avid sports fan, he coached little league for his boys and never missed an opportunity to cheer on the Spartans and IU. Lee enjoyed playing cards, hosting cookouts and parties, as well as spending time with his family. He will be dearly missed by all who know and love him.

Lee is survived by his children and their spouses: Gregg Powell, Darrell Powell and Tracey Huffman, Randall Powell and Kim, Jeff Powell and Betty, Brenda Vance and Bruce; grandchildren: Angie Faust and Damon, Justin Powell, Matt Powell and Cassy, Adrienne Tressler and Cale, Ryan Powell and Rebecca, Adam Powell, Lowell Huffman and Abigail, Ashley Lucas and Justus, Cody Vance, Victoria Vance and Holden; several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Lee is preceded in death by his loving wife of sixty-three years: Carolyn J. Powell.

A Funeral Service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 20, 2023, at Showalter Blackwell Long, Myers Chapel, Connersville. Burial will follow at Westside Cemetery, in Milton. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Sunday, February 19, 2023, from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to The Milton Christian Church in Lee’s Honor.
