Herman Judd, age 96 of Connersville, passed away on December 16, 2022 at Heritage House in Connersville. Herman was born on January 16, 1926 to the late Robert and Ersie Ramsey Judd in Gray Hawk, Kentucky.
On May 1, 1958, Herman married the love of his life and mother of his children, Deanna Ward, at her home in Tyner, Ky.
Herman proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp. A World War II Veteran, he attained the rank of E-4 as an aviation mechanic on various bomber aircrafts including the SB2C hell diver bomber.
Herman was no stranger to hard work and was a man of many talents. He worked for the Fayette County School Corporation and was named the first director of maintenance and transportation after the consolidation of all Fayette County Schools. Herman also owned and operated Herman Judd Construction with his wife, Deanna for many years. Throughout this time, he also taught building trades at WTCC in Connersville. Herman built countless homes throughout the area and remodeled many other homes and businesses. Herman couldn’t sit still very long. After retiring at the age of 65 for a short two weeks, he took a full time position at Fayette Memorial Hospital in maintenance where he continued to work for several more years.
He was determined to never let his age slow him down. He roofed his home at the age of 88 all while maintaining and mowing his yard for several years after.
Herman was also an avid sports fan. As a season ticket holder for more than 50 years, he rarely missed a Spartan basketball game. When he wasn’t working, Herman lived for baseball. His children’s involvement in baseball was of the upmost importance to him. Being a coach for more than 35 years, he never missed a game and rarely missed a practice.
Herman was also an active member in the Alquina Church for more than 65 years.
Herman will greatly missed by his children, Rita (Doug) Morgan, Lisa (Jeff) Gettinger, Vickie (Robin) Beaty, Randy (Julie) Judd, and Rob (Carolyn) Judd; grandchildren, Zach Morgan, Jeremy Morgan, Tyler (Jackie) Gettinger, Sam (Sarah) Gettinger, Clayton (Emily) Judd, Colin Judd, Clara Judd, Aaron Beaty, Audra (Daryl) McGuire, Ethan (Dessie) Judd, Emily Judd, Eli Judd and Eden Judd; great grandchildren, Asher Judd, Anson Judd, Alden Judd, Emerson Judd, Kallie Gettinger, Ford Gettinger, Reese Gettinger, Silas Beaty, Lettie McGuire, and Arlo Judd; as well as many nieces and nephews
Along with his parents, Herman was preceded in death by his wife, Deanna; siblings: Effie, Bessie, Earl, Walker, Pearl, Bonnie, his twin brother Harold, and Norma Jean.
Family and friends may gather at Urban Winkler Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. The funeral services will begin at 1:00 pm with his son, Pastor Rob Judd officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery.
