The victim in the stabbing that occurred along Interstate 70 in Richmond has died from his injuries.
Wayne County Sheriff Randy Retter announced the death of Angel Cruz, 55, of Miami, Florida, on Friday night, which was a week after the incident occurred.
A semi was reported to be disabled near the 154 mile-marker, and a sheriff’s deputy discovered that one of the two men inside was suffering from an apparent stab wound.
Cruz was first taken to Reid Health in Richmond, and then transferred to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio, where he died a few days after undergoing surgery for his wounds.
The interstate was closed for nearly five hours during the immediate investigation.
Following an autopsy and additional investigatory findings, Retter said suspect Pavel Nery-Gonzalez, 47, also of Miami, Florida, has been charged with murder and aggravated battery, which is a Level 3 felony.
Nery-Gonzalez is being held in the Wayne County Jail without bond.
