A woman and three children were taken to area hospitals after emergency crews responded to a single-vehicle rollover crash on Interstate 70 near Cambridge City.
Indiana State Police troopers were among those responding to a report of an accident after 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, at the Indiana 1 ramp to I-70 westbound.
ISP Trooper Aaron Edwards arrived to find that one child had been ejected from the vehicle, with two others entrapped in the vehicle with the female driver, according to a news release from Sgt. John Bowling.
Two medical helicopters were called with two of the children, Gabriel Lian, 6, and Elisha Lian, 10, being transported to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis.
The driver, Aye Aye Mu, 45, of Columbus, Ohio, and Isabella Lian, 8, were transported by ambulance to Reid Health in Richmond.
Edwards’ preliminary investigation indicates that the SUV driven by Mu was westbound on I-70 when another vehicle swerved into her lane, the release said.
The driver drove the SUV into the median, then over-corrected and drove back across I-70 westbound into the ditch on the north side of the road.
As the vehicle entered the ditch, it began rolling over, and rolled up onto the ramp from Indiana 1 to I-70 westbound, ejecting one of the children.
The two children in the vehicle were in restraints. It is unknown at this time if the ejected child was in a restraint.
The crash remains under investigation with Indiana State Police Crash Reconstruction Investigators Mark Hanna and Mike Bradbury assisting Edwards with the crash investigation.
Assistance at the scene came from local agencies including Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, Cambridge City fire and police departments and Reid Health EMS.
Troopers Painter and Snyder as well as ISP Sergeant Jeff Zeiger and ISP Sergeant Brian Metcalfe also helped.
