Fatal motorcycle accident

A local man has died after his motorcycle crashed in Richmond.

At 8:34 p.m. Sept. 13, Richmond Police Department responded to the accident scene in the 800 block of South 14th Street.

Once the officers arrived, it was apparent the driver of the motorcycle, Henry Farris, 64, of Richmond, was deceased, according to Lieutenant Donnie Benedict of RPD’s Office of Community Engagement and the Traffic and Safety Division.

RPD traffic investigators were called to the scene for investigation.

Benedict said they learned Farris’ motorcycle left the roadway and struck a light pole.

Farris was ejected from the motorcycle and succumbed to his injuries at the scene, Benedict said.

Nearby evidence, the mechanism of injury and damage to the motorcycle indicated speed was a contributing factor to the accident, Benedict said.

Crash investigators were assisted by Richmond Police Department’s Investigative Services division, Richmond Fire Department’s drone team and Wayne County Coroner’s Office.
