Two Wayne County high school seniors attended Hoosier Boys State at Trine University in Angola.
This year’s local participants are Desmond Bex of Cambridge City, who attends Indiana Academy for Science, Mathematics, and Humanities, and Cohen Current of Richmond, who attends Centerville Senior High School.
They were among 200 students who learned about running for office and creating a government.
Although Bex didn’t win his campaign for governor, he won a state representative seat and played piano in the talent show.

Current was elected as a prosecuting attorney for his county and state council member.
Boys State participants receive a $2,000 annual renewable scholarship if they choose to attend Trine. They also are eligible to compete for additional scholarships through the program.
Applications for the American Legion’s 2026 program open in January. For more information, visit hoosierboysstate.org.
