A Friday night benefit concert will help Cambridge City-area businesses recovering from flood damage.
Cambridge City Area Chamber of Commerce and Kicks 96 are organizing the Canal Came A-Roaring event.
Residents are invited to shop and visit with local businesses beginning at 5 p.m., Friday, Sept. 4, at Creitz Park Pavilion, behind the fire station, 127 W. Maple St., Cambridge City. While flooding damaged much of the lower section of the park, the new pavilion wasn’t affected.
The concert will be from 6-11 p.m. Scott Ross kicks off the show; AJ Wetzel performs at 7, followed by Neon Heartaches at 8 and the Sean Lamb Janet Miller Band at 9:30.
Admission is free; donations will be accepted.
American Legion Post 169, Lumpy’s Cafe and the fire department will sell food, and Chicago’s Pizza and Pilgrimage Wine Company will offer beverages.
Once the total amount raised is known, funds will be divided among impacted downtown businesses considering the extent of their damage and work needed to restore each location.
Affected businesses can apply to set up at the pavilion and accept direct donations. Vendor spaces are reserved for businesses affected by the flood.

Sept. 12 events
Although Cambridge City’s annual Canal Days festival has been canceled, some related events are still happening Saturday, Sept. 12:
- The ticketed breakfast for alumni at Lincoln Middle/High School begins at 9 a.m., followed by 10 a.m. tours. Reservations closed Sept. 1.
- Cambridge City Community Choir will perform at 3 p.m. in Jacksonburg Christian Church, 1640 N. Jacksonburg Road. Although it has a Cambridge City address, the church is northeast of East Germantown/Pershing, just north of U.S. 40. Admission is free; donations will be accepted for flood recovery. 765-994-5536
- Lincoln Middle/High School Class of 1976’s reunion will continue. It includes a free concert open to the public from 6-9 p.m. at Creitz Park Pavilion, 127 W. Maple St., Cambridge City. The Longshots play familiar tunes by artists including the Beatles and Doobie Brothers.
The 1976 graduates can informally gather at 2 p.m. at Pilgrimage Wine Company, followed by the 4 p.m. reunion at Creitz Park Pavilion and 5 p.m. photo. Reservations were encouraged by Sept. 1. Call 608-438-2667 or email 1976class.lincoln@gmail.com for more information.
