Percussionists and color guards from Wayne, Randolph and Henry counties continued competing in area contests.
IHSCGA performers
During Indiana High School Color Guard Association’s March 14 state finals, Centerville finished second in its division.
The Blue Wave placed second, with 80.580 points, in Regional A Class Hayes Division at Decatur Central High School in Indianapolis. Crawfordsville won with 81 points, and other competitors were Monrovia, Terre Haute North, Brownsburg, Leo, North Side, Huntington North, Bremen, Indian Creek, Triton Central, Delta, and Fort Wayne’s Wayne and South Side.
Connersville’s Crimson Guard finished 12th in the Medworth Division. Owen Valley won, followed by Carmel junior varsity, Westfield, Mooresville, Franklin Central, Warsaw, Bloomington South, DeKalb JV, Mater Dei, Vincennes Lincoln, Homestead, Decatur Central and New Haven.
Hagerstown’s Tigerettes winter guard earned gold with distinction in the Festival Class state finals on Saturday, March 14, at Plainfield, along with Tipton, AIS Phoenix, NorthWood JV and Fairfield JV. Other competitors included Speedway, Indianapolis Public Schools All City Guard, Fishers JV, Snider JV, Frankton-Lapel, McCutcheon, Manchester, Shoals and Leo JV.
Tri also finished 13th in Plainfield in Regional A Class Shaw Division. Northrop won; other competitors were Concord, Warren Central JV, Taylor, Tri-West, Plainfield JV, Noblesville JV, Jay County, Cloverdale, John Glenn, Northridge, Bedford North Lawrence and Mishawaka.
New Castle competed in Regional A Class Hagen Division and finished 12th. Fairfield JV won; other competitors were Norwell, Eastern Hancock, Maconaquah, West Vigo, East Noble, Ben Davis, Jimtown, Penn JV, Chesterton, Orleans, Mount Vernon JV and Brown County.
The Tigerettes and Hagerstown Indoor Percussion Ensemble will offer a community performance at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 20, at Hagerstown Jr.-Sr. High School’s gym. Tickets for the show will be sold at the door for $5.
On March 7, Centerville finished second of 14 schools, behind Heritage, in the third round of Regional A Class. Tri finished 12th at the March 7 contest at Anderson. Connersville and New Castle competed in different rounds of Regional A Class and finished 12th and 11th, respectively.

Hagerstown Indoor Percussion Ensemble returned to Indiana Percussion Association contests on March 14 at Westfield High School. The Tigers earned silver.
New Castle finished second behind Castle in the Percussion Scholastic Concert Open division. Concord was third.
State finals are March 21 at Decatur Central.

MEPA contests
Northeastern High School’s Damsels winter guard and Randolph Southern’s indoor percussion will return to Mid East Performance Association’s contest season on March 21 at Hamilton (Ohio) High School.
On March 7, Winchester’s indoor percussionists finished first of the three schools in Percussion Scholastic Concert A division at Fairborn (Ohio) High School.
