Wayne County Railroaders aim to expand display
Now that they’ve restored a historic caboose, Wayne County Railroaders are in the midst of an additional project next to it at Centerville’s park.
They are constructing an outdoor garden railway and need about $15,000 to finish the project. It will feature an outdoor G-scale model train.
Club members want to get the train installed for viewing during Archway Days, Aug. 26-27, at Maplewood Park. Donations of supplies such as topsoil or financial gifts are welcome.
One of the organization’s fundraisers is engraved bricks along the walkway. A 4×8-inch engraved brick costs $50. Additional options are available. The top package is an 8×8 brick and the donor’s name being added to a plaque in the caboose for $150.
Earlier this year, the railroaders insulated the caboose, installed a new floor and began replicating the original interior. A pot belly stove was added as well.
They have opened the caboose to the public one Saturday a month. A ramp expands access to those with disabilities. Schedule updates are on the club’s Facebook page, Wayne County Railroaders Assn.
