GREENS FORK, Ind. – One child has been injured and one died at a Greens Fork residence after being knocked off a cart.
Wayne County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a child being injured about 4 p.m. Saturday, June 9, in the 10600 block of Moyer Road in Greens Fork.
In a news release sent Sunday morning, Sheriff Jeff Cappa said the preliminary investigation has shown a 4-year-old and a 9-year-old were playing on a cart and wagon, which was pulled up to a barn by two horses.
Cappa said the horses, cart, and wagon were unattended, and it appears something scared the horses. The children were knocked off the cart as the horses ran from the area.
The front wheel of the wagon ran over the 4-year-old, who was pronounced dead on the scene by emergency medical personnel.
The 9-year-old was transported to Reid Health and was treated for a broken leg.
Cappa said the incident remains under investigation by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office and Indiana Department of Child Services.
