Tzuriya Phillips (Centerville) and Abigail Gilbert (Hagerstown) both saw their dream of a state championship ended on Friday, Jan. 17 with first-round losses in the inaugural girls state wrestling finals, held at the Corteva Coliseum on the Indiana State Fairgrounds.   

Phillips, a senior wrestling in the 115-pound weight class, lost to Ysabelle Ocampo (36-0), a sophomore from New Haven High School, by fall in a time of 0:50 to end her season with a record of 21-4. Ocampo went on to win the state title, running her record to 40-0.  

Gilbert, a sophomore wrestling in the 125-pound weight class, lost to Olivia Gibson (22-8) from Logansport High School in a 9-2 decision to end her season with a record of 21-2.
