During its March 15 meeting, Western Wayne Schools’ board celebrated its students’ performances at Business Professionals of America’s state competition.

Twenty students qualified for national participation. The National Leadership Conference is April 26-29.

Students will be raising money to pay for the trip with a variety of activities, according to Garrett Singer, the BPA lead adviser. The estimated cost is about $900 each.

Also during its brief meeting, the school board approved the following personnel actions from Superintendent Andy Stover.

Resignations: Teresa Ervin, elementary school teacher; Zak Zurwell, media specialist; Leonard Payne, high school varsity wrestling coach.

Coaching hires: Austin Wampler, middle school boys track; Dylan Miller, middle school assistant track coach; Zak Zurwell, middle school co-ed golf coach; Craig Pennington, high school volunteer boys golf coach.

Board members learned that Zurwell had applied for and received the Outside Ohio Grant for $4,000 for the district’s robotics program.

They also approved a $165 donation from M&M Electric for the Athletic Department to cover students’ entrance to a game.

The board’s next regular meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, in room 80 at Lincoln Middle/High School. The public may attend.
