The Stamm Koechlein Foundation gifted Wayne County Area Chamber of Commerce’s Center for Excellence $25,000. The funding will support the Student Future Success program by enabling nonprofit organizations to provide paid internships to high school students.
WWN reported Aug. 26 that some interns’ plans have been delayed due to new state law HEA 1098, requiring employers to purchase workers’ compensation insurance for unpaid interns. This funding assists in offsetting some of those costs, allowing nonprofits to play a greater role in expanding students’ experiences.
The Student Future Success program connects students with employers throughout the county for work-based learning experiences, which aligns with Indiana’s new high school diploma requirements emphasizing hands-on experience in the workplace. Students can explore career paths, gain workplace skills and build professional connections. In turn, employers introduce the next generation to local career opportunities.
“These internships can help students discover their path, gain valuable experience and build confidence as they prepare for the future. It’s a meaningful way to conclude our work with them as they enter this next chapter of life. We’re grateful to the Chamber’s Center of Excellence for helping make these opportunities possible,” said Monica Koechlein, president of Stamm Koechlein Family Foundation, in the news release.
