In a realignment from last season, athletes from Wayne County high schools were sent to the IHSAA East Central sectional on Thursday, May 22. The top eight finishers in each event scored points for their team, with the top three finishers in each event advancing to the Lawrence Central regional to be held on Thursday, May 29.
East Central won the team title, Richmond finished third, Centerville and Hagerstown tied for sixth place, Northeastern finished ninth, Lincoln finished 13th and Seton Catholic finished 15th. Four of the six Wayne County schools (Centerville, Hagerstown, Richmond and Seton Catholic) advanced at least one athlete to the regional.
Regional qualifiers included: Maddox Pritchett from Centerville won the long jump (21’9″) and placed third in the 100 meter (11.23). Antione West from Richmond won the 100 meter (10:96) and placed third in the 200 meter (23.38). Trevin Crosby from Richmond won the 400 meter (50.88) and Antione West placed second in the 400 meter (51.93). Cale Newton from Richmond won the 3200 meter (9:50.78) and placed second in the 1600 meter (4:30.75). The team of Ant’ione West, Ty’ziah Stubbs, Thomas Stargell and Crosby from Richmond placed third in the 4×400 meter relay. Jacob Lindahl from Richmond won the shot put (58’1″), Masson Heiny from Richmond won the discus (172’30”) and placed second in the shot put (56’9″). The team of Ben Hokey, Cory Nash, Max Cabrera and Isaac Schmitz from Hagerstown placed third in the 4×800 meter relay (8:43.10). Gavin Killion from Seton Catholic placed second in the 800 meter (2:02.79).

Other athletes scoring points for Richmond: Ant’ione West placed sixth in the 100 meter and fifth in the 300 meter hurdles; Trevin Crosby placed sixth in the 200 meter; Julian Bowden placed seventh in the 800 meter and fifth in the 1600 meter; the team of Ant’ione West, Ben Holliday, Antione West and Crosby placed fourth in the 4×100 meter relay; Lucas Durbin placed sixth in the high jump and Ben Holliday placed eighth in the long jump.
Other athletes scoring points for Centerville include: Grayson Hawkins placed eighth in the 800 meter; the team of Hawkins, Joe Martin, Clay Johnson and Jonah Cornett placed fourth in the 4×800 meter relay; and Coleson Campbell placed sixth in the shot put and sixth in the discus.
Other athletes scoring points for Hagerstown include: Zach Golliher placed fifth in the 200 meter; Isaac Schmitz placed fifth in the 800 meter; Bryce Tinkle placed eighth in the 3200 meter; Roy Thornbury placed fifth in the 110 meter hurdles and sixth in the 300 meter hurdles; the team of Thornbury, Sam Dusek, Ben Hokey and Schmitz placed fifth in the 4×400 meter relay; and Landon Lawson placed fifth in the discus.
Athletes scoring points for Northeastern include: Quanell Denton placed eighth in the 400 meter; the team of Denton, Logan Brown, David Reneau and Dylan Ross placed fifth in the 4×100 meter relay; the team of Brown, Marshall Phillips, Khyler Phillips and Denton placed sixth in the 4×400 meter relay; the team of Brandt Benjamin, Nicolas Markward, Dalton Justice and Zachary Kiracofe placed seventh in the 4×800 meter relay; Sabhyr Foust placed fifth in the high jump; Wyatt Craft placed sixth in the high jump; and Logan Brown placed fourth in the long jump.
Athletes scoring points for Cambridge City Lincoln include: Aidan Munchel placed fourth in the 110-meter hurdles and seventh in the 300-meter hurdles. Caden Alvarez placed fourth in the high jump.
