Because of a water main break, Cambridge City has issued a 36-hour water boil advisory for town residents who experienced low or lost water pressure on Wednesday, Jan. 21, and who live east of the river.

Those in the affected area should bring all water for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth or food preparation to a rolling boil for at least one minute, then allowed to cool before use.

The advisory, shared around 4 p.m. Wednesday, will remain in place for 36 hours or until officially lifted. Updates will be shared as more information becomes available.

Because of a lack of safe water, Western Wayne Schools canceled all after-school events on Wednesday.

Both Western Wayne Elementary and Lincoln Middle/High School will be under the boil alert on Thursday and Friday. Drinking fountains will be shut down. Students are asked to bring a water bottle. Disposable water bottles also will be offered at both buildings.

The town’s last water main break took more than 12 hours to repair on Christmas Day.
