A Richmond Board of Zoning Appeals decision April 8 will permit construction of a storage building at a Flatley Road residence located in a high intensity industrial zoning district.

The BZA unanimously granted a variance of development standards to reduce side and rear setbacks for the planned 1,500-square-foot building. The building will leave a 10-foot side setback and a 13-foot rear setback.

Sean Stapleton, a property owner and resident at 2320 Flatley Road, said the building would be used for residential storage. Stapleton will need to receive proper permits before beginning construction.

City planning and zoning staff recommended approval, noting that large buildings and reduced setbacks are common in the industrial zoning district.
