VanVleet member of winning international tourney team

Bryn VanVleet, a 2025 graduate of Seton Catholic High School, recently traveled to Pula, Croatia, to participate in the Global Volleyball Challenge and brought home a gold medal. 

VanVleet, a former Indiana All-Star, will be a sophomore this fall at Cleveland State University. 

VanVleet was one of only three players to appear in all 29 Cleveland State volleyball matches last season as a freshman, including starting 10 matches. VanVleet delivered 276 total kills for the Vikings, including a season high of 22 against Coastal Carolina. VanVleet said her decision to attend Cleveland State has been a great experience and says she loves it there. 

The 21st annual Global Challenge Volleyball tournament ran from July 13 through July 17 in Pula, Croatia. Teams from around the globe participated in the event. The competition featured teams from Slovenia, Croatia, Turkey, Canada, Austria, Italy, Israel, Latvia and Norway alongside USA regional high performance, youth national junior and collegiate national teams. VanVleet was recommended to participate by college coaches and participated in the U17 division. Each team was allowed two team members who were older than 17 and VanVleet was one of the approved exceptions. Her team advanced to the title round where they defeated another team from the United States for the gold medal. 

The organizers of the event give the participants, who may aspire someday to play professionally in Europe, an opportunity to spend time on the continent. VanVleet said that the participants were afforded ample free time to visit sites and meet athletes from the other teams and countries and called it a great opportunity. 

VanVleet has now returned to Cleveland State for her sophomore year. Fans who would like an opportunity to see her and the Vikings play close to home this season will have the opportunity on Saturday, Nov. 14, when they travel to Indianapolis for a match with Indiana University Indianapolis.
