Truckers breaking down on Interstate 70 in Wayne County might soon receive assistance from a Cambridge City business.

During its May 14 meeting, Wayne County’s Board of Zoning Appeals approved a variance of use to permit a truck service business at 2000 N. Ind. 1 northwest of the I-70 and Ind. 1 interchange. The business will repair semis and have a service truck that will respond 24 hours a day to breakdowns; however, it will not provide tows.

In 2017, John Dutkiewicz received BZA approval for a similar business that never began. This time, Dutkiewicz and Sarvar Raimov applied for the variance petition.

The business plans regular hours of 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday at a building already on site. It expects to employ four or five workers immediately and hopes to expand to as many as 10 in the future.

BZA members also unanimously approved a petition for a variance of use that permits a business repairing small agricultural equipment at 10340 Sample Road, which is southeast of Pennville but has a Centerville address.

Gideon Esh plans to move his business from a Greens Fork home to the Sample Road property he purchased. He plans to build a 48-foot-by-64-foot building to house his shop.

Esh plans normal working hours of 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, although he’ll be permitted to provide emergency repairs during off hours.

Neighbor Anthony Caravello expressed concern about his property value dropping and whether shop noise will interfere with his sleep.
