The Hagerstown volleyball team closed out regular-season play on Thursday, Oct. 9, by hosting Centerville in the final Tri-Eastern Conference match of the season for both schools. The two teams played five days prior in the Wayne County tournament with the Tigers winning each set easily in a sweep. The Tigers again won the match in straight sets, but there wasn’t anything easy about it.

Centerville never trailed in the first set, building leads of as many as seven points, and went to set point at 24-20. The Tigers scored six consecutive points to win the set 26-24.

The second set was very similar. Centerville again led the set by as many as seven points and was still leading 20-15 before the Tigers went on a 10-0 run to win the set 25-15.

The Tigers controlled the third set, breaking from a 3-3 tie to eventually win 25-12. The final margin was the largest of the match for either team.

Individual statistics were not available for either team. With the win, Hagerstown clinched second place in the final TEC standings.

The Tigers will open sectional action on Thursday, Oct. 16, with a match against Shenandoah at the Hagerstown sectional. Centerville will face the winner of the Hagerstown and Shenandoah match on Saturday, Oct. 18, for the right to advance to the championship match.
