Western Wayne News reporting and photography was recognized at the Best in Indiana Journalism awards ceremony on Friday, April 26.

WWN photographer Joshua Smith received a first-place award for his collection of photos taken at the July 18, 2023, Hagerstown Fly-In. The award was for a multiple picture group in publications with a circulation below 10,000.

WWN reporters Mike Emery, Millicent Martin Emery and Chris Hardie received a second-place award for their breaking news reporting about the April 11, 2023, plastics fire in Richmond, which included live online coverage from the site of the fire as well as multiple articles in our April 19 print edition.

The awards were given by the Indiana Professional Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, which promotes the development of current and future journalists by offering training and networking opportunities as well as college journalism scholarships. The judging and ceremony recognized works of journalism from 2023 across a broad range of categories and formats.
