Wayne County is among several central Indiana areas seeing expanded rural broadband access through projects by Spectrum and Comcast, according to recent news releases.
Spectrum says about 3,100 local homes and businesses will gain access through a multi-year fiber expansion project aimed at delivering multi-gigabit internet speeds.
Separately, Comcast says about 2,100 Wayne County homes and businesses will gain access to high-speed internet through a partnership with Indiana’s broadband grant program.
Indiana Secretary of Transportation and Infrastructure Matt Ubelhor said expanded broadband access is important for economic growth and rural connectivity. State Sen. Jeff Raatz said that he has supported efforts to improve rural internet access in Wayne and Union counties.
