A community choir is being formed to sing at a community celebration noting the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The choir will practice from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 12, through Friday, Jan. 16, at Mount Olive Baptist Church, 1108 N. H St., Richmond.

Youth and adult singers are welcome to join the ensemble, which performs during the celebration at 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, in Mount Olive. It’s free and open to the public.

Bishop Joshua Washington, pastor and founder of St. James Miracle Temple in Dayton, Ohio, is organizing the musical program. He offers more than 30 years of experience as a musician, choir director and songwriter.

Organizers say the celebration will include uplifting speakers and musical performances that will bring the community together in reflection and unity.

The Richmond-based NAACP Branch No. 3066 and Mount Olive are sponsoring the celebration.
