Richmond Police Department will provide Richmond Community Schools one fewer school resource officer this school year.
During its Aug. 6 meeting, the Richmond Board of Public Works and Safety approved a memorandum of understanding for the 2026-27 school year. Major Austin Lipps highlighted that the MOU provides three officers for $300,000 rather than the four officers for $400,000 during the 2025-26 school year.
Officers will cover Richmond High School, Dennis Middle School and Community Youth Services, but the agreement provides some freedom to move among RCS’ schools.
Richmond Fire Department had two contracts approved by the board. A three-year contract with TargetSolutions Learning LLC provides online learning modules that help fulfill training and certification mandates, said Deputy Chief Matthew Baker. It costs $11,271 the first year with expected 5% increases in the second and third years.
A contract with Whitewater Construction pays $50,000 for exterior renovation work at Station 3.
The board approved a $28,700 contract with Cox Excavating Plus for demolition work at 111 S. 11th St. Another four demolition bids were awarded. Mikesell Excavating received the bid for 741 S. Fifth St. at $21,600, and B&B Construction received three bids: 817 N. I St. for $9,500, 828 S. Sixth St. for $17,750 and 1019 N. J St. for $8,500.
The closures of North Eighth Street and Elm Place were approved from 4 to 7 p.m. Aug. 29 for Dogs Night Out in the Depot District. Vendors will set up on North Eighth Street from North D to North E streets.
