Richmond’s downtown surface parking will receive needed improvements with $50,000 provided by the city’s Redevelopment Commission.
The commission approved the tax increment finance contribution from its main downtown allocation area during its Aug. 18 meeting. The city previously received Redevelopment Commission funding for parking garage improvements.
The money will cover repairs to retaining walls and curbs, sealing of cracks, painting and general repairs for the city parking lots at Elstro Plaza, North 10th Street, South 10th Street and South Ninth Street, according to Beth Fields, the city’s director of strategic initiatives. The city’s street department will complete the work, limiting costs to materials, Fields said.
The commission also unanimously approved providing $3,230,000 in TIF funds for the Smith Hill planned unit development south of Backmeyer Road between South 37th Street and Garwood Road (see story on Page 8). The money provides most of the match for $4,330,000 in state Regional Economic Acceleration and Development Initiative funding, although the match also includes the $1.1 million value of land donated for the housing project.
A resolution to confirm the resolution the commission passed enabling a third downtown tax increment finance allocation district for AP Development’s seven-property Legacy on Main project was tabled. A public hearing will be 1:30 p.m. Sept. 15 in the third-floor chambers of the Richmond Municipal Building, 50 N. Fifth St., Richmond.
