Richmond High School has announced the appointment of Robert Lee as its new athletic director. He assumed the role on July 1.
Lee is a native of Gary, where he was a standout football lineman at Gary Westside High School. He went on to play collegiately at Illinois State University for two seasons before a knee injury ended his playing career.
He brings 34 years of experience in athletic administration and coaching. He served as the athletic director of Gary Community Schools for the last four years. His athletic and coaching experiences also include Butler University, Eastern Michigan University, Valparaiso University, Miami (Ohio) University, Earlham College and the NFL’s Chicago Bears.
Richmond High School Principal Rae Ferriell-Woolpy commented on the hire. “We are thrilled to welcome Robert Lee to the Richmond High School family,” Ferriell-Woolpy said. “His passion for student-athletes’ success, both on and off the field, aligns perfectly with our school’s mission. We’re confident that our athletic programs will continue to thrive under his leadership.”
In his role as athletic director, Lee will oversee all aspects of Richmond Community Schools’ athletic programs, including budget management, scheduling, coach development, and ensuring compliance with state and national athletic association regulations.
