Alex Young, a firefighter and paramedic, received Richmond Fire Department’s Firefighter of the Year award Dec. 13 for his dedication, loyalty, productivity and professionalism.
According to a news release, Young completed hazardous materials, ropes, confined space and fire investigator classes. He also graduated from the Reid Health paramedic class, receiving an award as outstanding preceptor.
In addition, Young, who became commander of the department’s Honor Guard, is a member of the Local 1408 union executive board and has been instrumental in construction of the department’s new merit system.
Young is assigned to Engine 2 on the A shift.
