Richmond High School seniors Henry Vincent and Ross Peacock are state champions.

Western Wayne News ran an article in our March 22nd issue announcing the signing of Vincent to attend Adrian College in Michigan on a fishing scholarship.

Last weekend Vincent, with his fishing partner and classmate Ross Peacock, validated Adrian College’s decision by winning the Student Angler Federation Indiana State Championship in a competition held at Patoka Lake in southern Indiana.

There were 62 teams entered. Many were sponsored by their high schools. Richmond High school doesn’t offer fishing as an extracurricular event, so Vincent and Peacock entered through their fishing club, Rose City Fishing.

Vincent started fishing at an early age and it became a passion. Vincent entered his first fishing contest at the age of 14. Winning the state competition (which coincidentally was on Vincent’s birthday) qualified Vincent and Peacock to participate in the Student Angler Federation National competition on the Mississippi River in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, to be held June 20-24.

Each team must provide their own boat and gear and acquire a current Wisconsin fishing license. Vincent, the son of Jeremy Vincent and the late Kim Vincent, leaves for Adrian College in late August.
