Entering this season, the best start for the Richmond Red Devils boys basketball team during the last 30 seasons came during the 2013-14 season, when then-head coach Joe Luce guided his Red Devil team to an 8-0 start.
Entering this season, the best start by any Wayne County team during the same 30-year period belonged to the Hagerstown Tigers. Then-head coach Bobby Jones guided his Tigers to a 14-0 start to open the 2012-13 season.
Current Richmond head coach Billy Wright guided his Red Devils to four wins during their championship run in the recently completed Bob Wettig Tournament, then added a home win over New Castle on Friday, Jan. 5 and a road win at McCutcheon on Saturday, Jan. 6 to improve to 14-0 and match the Tigers’ start during 2012-13.
Next up is longtime North Central Conference nemesis Muncie Central.
