Earlham College’s Revitalize Richmond, in partnership with Richmond Neighborhood Restoration and the Wayne County Land Trust, has selected the property at 713 E. Main St. as its next project. The downtown building previously housed Tabletop Adventures.

The building will retain both its commercial storefront and residential spaces, according to a news release. The second-floor apartment will feature a single bedroom with access to both the street and alley. An outdoor space will be created on the roof.

The Wayne County Land Trust will retain ownership of the building and lease the two spaces once renovations are complete, estimated for later this year.

“Projects like this are exactly what Revitalize Richmond was created to support,” said Dakota Collins, director of community relations at Earlham College, in the release. “By working with strong local partners like the Wayne County Land Trust and Richmond Neighborhood Restoration, we can take buildings that have been part of Richmond’s story for generations and prepare them for the next one. This project preserves an important historic structure while creating new opportunities for downtown living and business.”

The building dates back to the 1870s, when it stood as a three-story structure. A variety of businesses have occupied the space, including Muir’s Cut Rate Drug Store, Kennedy Clothing Co. and Sanders Jewelry. In the ’90s, it housed the Treaty Line Council of the Girl Scouts and Tech Plus Computer. Tabletop Adventures operated there from 2008 through 2023.
