The 1A fifth-ranked Seton Catholic volleyball team is having a storybook year. Entering play in the Elwood Regional against Rossville on Saturday, Oct. 26, the Cardinals sported a 25-8 record. Their program is known statewide, but it would be easy to make the case that it was the 2015 Seton Catholic team who originally put the little school from Richmond on the statewide volleyball map.
The 2015 Cardinals, under head coach Jennifer Martin, accumulated a school record of 29 wins. Cardinal seniors Rosie Chimenti, Ashley Miller, Julia Reichley and Megan Schroeder and a strong supporting cast of underclassmen had a final record of 29-9 and earned a trip to the semi-state before losing to perennial power Lafayette Central Catholic.
The 29 wins they accumulated appeared to be an unbreakable record because the Indiana High School Athletic Association later reduced the number of matches a team can play in the regular season. The current Cardinal team would have to win the state championship to tie the record for wins.
