Reid Health has a new acting president and CEO.

Ben Wells, who joined the regional healthcare organization in July 2024 as a vice president and chief financial officer, has assumed the top role in an acting capacity, according to a Reid Health representative.

Craig Kinyon had been in that role since 2008 after serving as a vice president and CFO for almost 14 years before that. Kinyon was listed on Reid’s website as its CEO as recently as Feb. 14.

Jason Troutwine, a vice president at Reid Health, told WWN that Kinyon recently requested an indefinite leave of absence.

“We will respect his privacy during his time away,” Troutwine said. “In light of this news, the Reid Governing Board Executive Committee named Ben Wells as Acting President/CEO. Ben will also continue to fulfill his responsibilities as vice president/CFO,” Troutwine said.

Founded in 1905 as Reid Memorial Hospital, Reid Health has more than 3,000 employees.

Kinyon’s time as CEO began just after Reid moved its main campus to its current location off Chester Boulevard in Richmond in September 2008. Reid has since built a network of over 40 satellite locations and offices across east central Indiana and west central Ohio, including breaking ground on a new $100 million health facility in Connersville in 2023. The organization has also expanded partnerships with area educational institutions, and the Reid Foundation has granted more than $86 million to related healthcare programs and community services.

Wells has more than 15 years of experience working in health care which includes previous CFO roles at hospitals in Alabama and Illinois, according to a statement by Reid. Upon joining the Reid team, the statement said, Wells purchased a home in Centerville where he and his wife are raising three boys.

“I appreciate everyone’s support of Reid Health as we navigate through this time,” Wells said in the statement. “I’ve been impressed by the Reid Team during my time here and know we will continue to make progress as an organization while we work to be our best every day for our patients and the communities we serve.”
