The Mount Vernon (Fortville) Marauders, 16th ranked in the state poll, looked the part of a ranked team on Tuesday, March 4, when they defeated the Richmond Red Devils 65-35 in the opening round of sectional play. 

The Marauders opened the game on a 7-0 run and led 19-10 after the first quarter. They expanded their lead to 32-19 by halftime. The Red Devils closed their deficit to 34-23 early in the third quarter on back-to-back baskets from Dae Lundy, but the Marauders answered with a 9-0 run and the rout was on. 

Luke Ertle, a Purdue University commit, led the Marauders and all game scorers with 22 points. Mason Carpenter scored 14 points to lead Richmond and Dae Lundy scored 11 points. 

The game was the last in a Red Devil basketball uniform for seniors Mason Carpenter, Jaiden Holland, Dae Lundy and Xavier Ogle.
