A lot can change from November to February. On Nov. 16, the Richmond Lady Red Devil basketball team hosted Mount Vernon (Fortville) and lost 46-33. Three days later, the Lady Red Devils hosted Greenfield-Central and lost 49-25. 

In the opening round game of the Mount Vernon sectional, played on Tuesday, Feb. 4, Richmond turned the tables on Greenfield-Central and handed them a stunning 54-50 loss to set up a rematch with Mount Vernon on Friday, Feb. 7, in the semifinal round. The match was Richmond’s first win in a sectional game since the 2014-15 season.

The Lady Devils took a 14-9 lead at the end of the first quarter and increased it to 38-28 after three quarters, then held off a Lady Cougar fourth-quarter rally.

Amyannah Tucker led Richmond and all game scorers with 26 points. Maren Bolser and Kiarra Handley each scored 9 points. The tenacious Richmond defense only allowed four Cougars to score in the game. Izzy Silcox led the Lady Cougars with 16 points, Chaney Brown scored 15 points and Brooklyn Mcconnell added 12 points.
