The Lapel Lady Bulldogs, ranked third in the latest 2A state poll, were defeated by the unranked Lady Tigers 7-1 on Monday, April 28, at Hagerstown. The Lady Tigers cruised to a 7-0 lead before allowing a single run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Ava Zdanowski (Lapel) and Rylan Young (Hagerstown) played a pitcher’s duel with the Tigers leading 1-0 after three innings, scoring an unearned run in the first inning. The Tigers held hitless through three innings, then exploded for five runs in the fourth inning to take control of the game.
Jerycha Allred started the big inning with a one-out single. Aaliya Anderson followed with a single, Young singled and Emma Jarrett singled. One out later, Allison Stinson hammered a ball over the center field fence to extend the Tigers’ lead to 6-0. The Tigers added a single run in the bottom of the sixth inning after back-to-back-to back base hits from Anderson, Young and Jarrett. Karlie Jannings (Lapel) drew a lead-off walk in the seventh inning and eventually came around to score to end the Tigers’ shutout.

Young scattered five hits and struck out nine batters to earn the win. As a team, the Tigers collected 10 hits. Jarrett and Young each had two hits, and Anderson had three hits. Jannings led the Bulldogs with two hits.
Tiger head coach Bruce Charles said it was good to beat a ranked team, but he prefers to stay under the radar.
“I am fine with not being ranked,” Charles said. “Keep us low in the rankings and let us sneak up on teams. We still have a lot of games to play, and we want to maintain our momentum. We are really deep, and our kids are playing confidently and well.”
Allison Stinson, who hit her fifth home run, said the team does not have a problem with the pollsters overlooking them. “We have talked about this after going nine innings with Roncalli last week. We want to be like a snake,” Stinson said. “We are content to hide in the weeds and sneak up on good teams.”
